KEY DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES 2011-2012 (from the SIDP)

Promote excellence and enhance achievement by:

Students' achievement:

maintaining existing high attainment and raise standards of attainment higher where possible

Quality of teaching and learning:

ensuring high quality teaching and purposeful learning:
  • improve teaching further so that more is outstanding
  • ensure stretch and challenge for all – including the “unremarked majority”
  • continue to develop the Moodle (VLE) to support learning
  • make effective use of academic peer mentors in departments and beyond
  • review the homework policy (home learning policy) in the light of parents' comments
developing and enhancing assessment, recording and reporting:
  • carry out of a review of assessment practice
  • enhance marking and feedback to ensure that students know how to further improve their work
  • develop and extend good practice in using data to inform teaching
  • embed the assessment tracking and monitoring system
  • develop the new pupil review and target setting system
  • review, develop and improve the system of reporting to parents
ensuring a progressive and challenging curriculum:
  • carry out a review of assessment practice
  • continue to collaborate with local institutions to ensure access to wider provision, including introducing joint teaching with KES (in DT and PE)
  • develop extension opportunities for G&T
  • focus on internationalism and the global dimension: including India, Africa and Japan
  • develop a careers and WRL programme based on best practice CEIAG

Students’ behaviour and safety:

ensuring the highest quality of support, guidance and care for students:

  • embed vertical tutoring, including developing the tutor role, and embed the revised House system
  • establish peer mentors within the new student leadership framework

maintaining the safeguarding of students as a high priority
1 maintaining a high profile for the ECM outcomes and other dimensions, including a community outlook

Leadership:

developing leadership across the students:
  • embed the new student leadership team structures and systems effectively (Head Girls, House Captains, Prefect Team Leaders and Prefects, Learning and Support Mentors)
  • pilot the “community kite mark” framework of core experiences for students
developing CPD and leadership across the staff:
  • pilot new system of CPD based on using disaggregated training days to allow flexible training, enhance sharing best practice and encourage staff to undertake coaching
  • establish framework of leadership standards and support those undertaking new leadership roles
  • ensure appropriate and timely CPD for support staff
developing partnerships outside school and contributing to system leadership:
  • contribute to the development of local SWEP and SISLAN partnerships
  • undertake Local Leader of Education (LLE) training with NCSL and enable the Shottery team to contribute to school to school support as appropriate
  • work closely with Welcombe Hills School as our academy partner
  • maintain and extend where possible our community links with local primary schools
  • investigate Ray Speakman’s proposal that we lead the G&T network for South Warks
developing governance:
  • operate successfully in the first year of academy status, developing further as new governors join the team and new responsibilities emerge
  • review the committee structures with a view to streamlining and making more effective


Maximising our resources:

  • pursue building development plans: complete Humanities Extension and work for Sports Centre
  • make the most of existing buildings and resources
  • continue to develop the effective use of ICT in the school

  • improve the status and recognition of the school within Stratford, Warks and further afield
  • investigate the pros and cons of expanding the school
