FOS

Friends of Shottery (FOS) are parents who work with the head and her staff to raise funds for the school. FOS organises various events for the girls and, whilst fundraising is top of our agenda, we aim to have some fun too through the social and school events which we arrange or support. At the end of last term it was a great feeling to hand over £20,000 to the school as a contribution towards the refurbishment of the science labs. The girls responded with a big thank you to FOS in the form of a folder signed by virtually every girl. Many of us feel that this is what makes supporting FOS so worthwhile.

A very warm welcome to all our new parents and we sincerely hope you enjoy your time with us at school.

SAL

SHOTTERY ACTIVE LIFESTYLES ( “SAL”)

This is an association of parents working with keen support from the school’s sports department and set up to encourage participation by the girls in sports and active lifestyles generally. SAL was founded in 2006 and since then has been prominent in holding events and raising funds as well as providing financial and other support for a range of activities at the school.

The committee was pleased to be involved with the first major intercontinental hockey and netball tour to South Africa in summer 2009. The tour encompassed girls from years 10 to 13 and proved a resounding success both with girls and staff. Apart from contributing towards each girl’s overall cost, SAL sponsored the baggage and kit as well as a last night dinner in Cape Town. The next major such tour is planned for summer 2011.

Annual events instituted by SAL include the very popular sports award and fun family tennis evenings (both in the summer term), bagpacking by the girls at Christmas and a quiz in the Spring.

This year, with the intention of making it an annual event, SAL will be holding the BIG APPLE BALL on Saturday 21st November 2009. This will feature the school’s Jazz Band (under its director, Louise Coates), then just back from a Central Park, New York performance. We expect this to be a popular event which will provide an opportunity for parents (new and old) to meet others in the Shottery family. Please see the separate flier (link below) for further details.

None of this happens by itself, not without parents willing to support their girls throughout the school. SAL needs your support if the girls are to continue to have the opportunities which we believe they should. Joining the committee would be excellent, with its rewards being in the delights of the girls. If that is not possible, parents willing to provide background help are always needed. At the very least, please do try to attend our events - for without your support, we cannot help the girls.

Please contact the committee’s secretary, Beverley Beaumont on 01608 685142 or via beverleybeaumont@gmail.com for further information.
