PSHE Teaching Philosophy and
Learning Outcomes
At Shottery we contend that PSHE lessons should
be:
Personal: students
should have a degree of input into what will be discussed and considered.
Issues should reflect each student’s personal needs and interests.
Social: lessons
should generally not follow a structured traditional classroom environment.
There should be extensive use of group work, class discussion, and
other active means of social engagement. PSHE should encourage form
identity. For example, it should be inclusive and discourage the
development of cliques.
We understand that PSHE must also follow the learning
outcomes of Every Child Matters as well as suggested Key
Stage outcomes from OFSTED.
OFSTED learning outcomes follow this outline:
 |
Developing
confidence
|
 |
Careers education. |
 |
Healthy and safe lifestyles |
 |
Developing good relationships |
 |
Sex and relationship education
|
 |
Drug education |
Succinctly put, PSHE should be a positive distinctly
different lesson in the week where girls can look at the broader
issues of life and how they affect them as individuals. It should
follow government guidelines particularly as they follow the needs
and interests of the students under our charge.
Any further inquires can be directed to
Mr Kuhn via the school office.
