SAL

Dear Parents

Last academic year brought together a new committee – to raise funds and improve the opportunities for our girls in the general activity/ leisure area. This includes sports, tours and other bonding/ character building activities. The concept is that the benefits will, over time, be able to reach a wide range of activities involving as many girls as possible.

The committee will be represented on the main Marketing and Development Committee alongside groups such as Friends of Shottery so that there is useful coordination and avoidance of possible duplication.

This letter recaps the position to date. We began in earnest last term (Summer 2006) and since then have arranged several small but significant initiatives. These have included a fun wine tasting, an easy-going tennis tournament, a delightful gathering of old mobile phones (for recycling) and the excitement of the sales (latest fashion school uniforms/ kit). You may get the idea. Funds raised so far are around £1000.

After due consultation, the committee will be called Shottery Active Lifestyles for All (or SAL for short). SAL will write to you with details of upcoming events. A word in advance for the first such event (Saturday evening 25th November is anticipated), seek out your vibrant trainers and flourishing frocks. There will be a flyer on this shortly after half-term. Please look out for this.

This letter would not be complete without some pleas. First for support at all events by a wide selection of parents. All our girls (from a wide geographical area) enjoy the benefits of the first class Shottery education. We hope to enhance their wider enjoyment and experience as well as support staff in pursuing this objective. Your involvement will complement this and add a welcome chance to meet other parents.

Second, the committee is always in need of members, ideas and assistance. Parents of girls in the early years are particularly welcome because they will hopefully be able to contribute (and see the rewards in their daughters) over their school careers. Please do not be shy – our secretary, Beverley Beaumont, would be delighted to hear from you on 01608 685462 or by email beverleybeaumont@gmail.com

Hasta la vista (after all, it is a language school)...

Thankfully yours,
Leslie Simon
